J & Y
J & Y
Release Date: August 26 , 2011
pro dubbed – limited edition of 100
Coming on the recommendation from a friend of ours in fellow Plustapes alum Disappears, J&Y reveal themselves to be kindred spirits on their eponymous five-tracker and debut for our fair label. Based in Paris, France, the artwork to Laurencia Lam and King Q4's first American tape is a perfect summation of their approach: Make it simple. Make it efficient. Make it motor. Opening jam "C" sets the tone, kicking out the groove in under a minute and a half. Occasional synthetic weirdness and far-away voices mingle with piloting basslines and fuzzy guitars from distant decades through the other four songs, capped off by 11-minute Side B implosion "Doomsday." Kraut, garage, ambient? Call it what you will. We call it awesome.
