We here at Plustapes agree: 2011 is surely the year of the bunny… The Dust Bunnies, that is. Our latest offering features the constantly recalibrating sounds of this Chicago group, who generously grace our spools with 18 psychedelically flavored organ-pop nuggets on We Are Not Alone. Even that might be too specific a description, though. Eastern-tinged drone “The Tao of Dust” sounds little like the 50s pop harmonies of “I’m in Love With You” or the Appalachian porch jam “Wasting My Time” or the ominous invocation of the title-track. The unifying power of Paul Nixon and Crystal Hartford’s vocals make this the best kind of trip: You smile, you cower, you fear, you follow. The same old story? Not this time.
